Getting in Touch
Contacting Us
We love to hear from friends and family. Although we don't always have access to email, we try to get to the internet as often as possible. For us this often means finding an internet cafe, a hotel or resort in a town or marina. Please let us know all your news at crsailing@gmail.com.
Finding Us
Find us at http://www.aprs.net/cgi-bin/winlink.cgi?KB1HUE . This site is updated via our ham radio about once/day while we are traveling. We usually do not update this site more than once after our "arrival" in a new place and are visiting a destination, i.e. the boat is no longer underway. Keep in mind that we may not be able to make updates if we have radio problems or general difficulty with the transmission. To see an overview of our route using a great program called shiptrak: http://shiptrak.org/?callsign=<kb1hue>.
Visiting us
The cruisers philosophy on visiting us goes something like "You can choose either the place or the time, but not both". The weather is always the biggest variable in making plans and for this reason we cannot guarantee our location far in advance. We do the best we can to estimate our arrival at a location but visitors need to be prepared to make final reservations with little advanced notice and/or to change their plans (plane tickets, dates) according to our needs. This means it may cost you more to visit us than typically expected or be more difficult to arrange than the usual vacation.
Life Aboard may hold some surprises -- minimizing water usage, limited activity once the sun goes down, salt water bathing with fresh water rinse, very intense sun exposure ALL THE TIME. Here are some of our house rules:
Be happy, be flexible, no whining please; be prepared for the unexpected.
Clean up after oneself, especially in the head and galley.
Use water and electricity sparingly.
Keep shared living areas relatively free of personal items.
Be gentle with the boat, things break easily; hatches, latches, knobs, drawers, and everything in the head.
All hatches must be closed before leaving the boat & when getting underway.
What to bring for your visit? Casual clothes only. Storage on the boat is limited so pack in soft sided bags - 2 small bags is better than 1 big bag. Laundry is easily done in a bucket if needed. Our packing recommendations:
Swimsuits (2)
Shorts (2)
Tshirts/tank tops (5)
Slightly nicer shirts but not too nice (2)
Underwear & personal items
Socks if hiking (2 to 3 pair)
Hiking or running shoes
